Today we mourn the passing of a gentle giant of our struggle for freedom.
But we also celebrate the life of a very courageous and principled leader of that struggle.
When I think of Kathy Kathrada's 75 years of political activism, I feel overwhelmed by his example.
We are all humbled by the sacrifices he and his colleagues made during their decades on Robben Island. And we are inspired by the way he stayed true to the values and principles for which those sacrifices were made.
To Barbara Hogan, Kathy’s friends and comrades and all in South Africa, do not despair, he has overcome and we shall overcome too.
