Welcome to Archbishop of York

This media release was issued on 11 October 2012.

The Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, Dr Thabo Makgoba, has issued a warm welcome to the Archbishop of York, on behalf of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, on his visit to the Diocese of Pretoria, from 10 to 16 October 2012.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu and his wife Margaret have been invited by the Bishop of Pretoria, Dr Johannes Seoka. They will also spend time in Magaliesberg and Rustenburg.

Archbishop Sentamu will present the award of ‘St Alban The Martyr’, the highest Order given to lay people, at the Bishop’s House. He will also lead a clergy day workshop at St Alban’s Cathedral, preside and preach at a Family Day Eucharist in Rustenburg Archdeaconry, and visit Church schools.

Dr Makgoba said, ‘We are delighted that Archbishop Sentamu is visiting us. The Anglican Church of Southern Africa highly values our links across the global Anglican family. We enjoy close ties with the Diocese of York, and I am so glad that the Archbishop will have this opportunity to see something of our varied life and ministry even if only in a small part of our very large and diverse church.’
